SQUIRREL
2nd August 2007
Squirrel is a rescue horse that came under the care of a horse rehabilitation centre. He had a past life as a race horse. Squirrel was severely neglected and emaciated. The centre had him wormed and his teeth and feet treated and placed him on good food.
28th September 2007
The centre called for help as Squirrel was not responding as well as expected. He had persistent projectile diarrhoea, his coat was greasy, dull and lifeless. His condition was still very poor despite the care and good diet his weight was not improving a great deal. He had substantial muscle wastage, was in a lot of soft tissue pain, was grumpy and resented being touched by people around him. He had temperament issues included being pushy and was free with a bite or kick too.
I treated Squirrel this same day applying a Full Body Lymphatic Bowen Treatment, dispensed homeopathics for his diarrhoea, pain and malabsorption problems, flower essences for his past and present emotions that were influencing his fears/aggression. I suggested a change of diet back to good quality meadow hay combined with good grazing in a large paddock and the removal of any hard feed until his digestive tract could cope with food better.
5th October 2007
Repeated
the treatment. There had been a good improvement on all levels, his
diarrhoea gone, weight gain improved, temperament improving, body pain
had improved too.

15th October 2007
Repeated
the treatment. What an improvement there had been, his weight had
increased further, his temperament and body pain were great.
1st November 2007
I
did no further Bowen Therapy or Homeopathic treatments, Squirrel
relocated to his new home, healthy of body, mind and soul. He went on
to live with another horse whom he fell in love with, incidentally her
name happened to be Squirrel too!) He was renamed, he was in love with
her and his new owner loved him. Happy ending!
FRECKLE’S THE DINGO
I had become friendly with Lyn and Peter at the Dingo Discovery Centre on our arrival to Victoria 3 in 2006. A lifelong love of dingo’s culminated in a visit to their centre where they maintain and breed a purebred (DNA tested) dingo colony.
Freckle’s came into my care after placing her leg through the next door enclosure where she was attacked. Her front leg was broken in several places high up through both radius and ulnar, and she sustained injuries to her lower leg through her carpal joint. Her medial toe was amputated, the fractures pinned and plated in two separate operations due to mal-union complications. Many months passed and Freckle’s leg had not healed well, her fractures were slow to respond to healing and the toe that was amputated had created secondary problems in her foot function, her leg from the carpus (wrist) down deviated outward and there was minimal flexion in the joint. She was about 98% non weight bearing on the injured leg.
Lyn was getting very concerned now, and euthanasia was looking imminent, if Freckle’s leg did not heal and if she could not get around sound. Dingo’s do not survive well with injuries, the other dogs pick on them as the dingo pack operates as one would in the wild. Lyn was keen to breed from Freckle’s too as she had a great temperament and lines.

In all I treated Freckle’s with Bowen Therapy 4 times
over a 2 month period and supplied homeopathic remedies. I engaged Lyn
in stretching techniques on Freckle’s leg and joints and within that 2
month period she was 98% weight bearing and sound. She continued to
improve and went on to have a litter.
I would have to say this was one of my career highlights
as an animal therapist, not only did I get to treat this beautiful
creature, but I held her in my arms and she installed all her trust in
me to get her well.....she was so gentle and accepting of my
touch...unforgettable moments!
