McLaren Photonic Therapy is an effective, safe, scientifically advanced form of acupuncture, using Red Light, not laser, to gently stimulate the body’s own capacity to reduce pain, increase the immune response and promote healing.
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese medical art of inserting needles into pre-determined parts of the body to produce physiological change and healing. As a treatment system acupuncture is as effective as, or in some cases more effective than western medicine. Until recently the mode of action was not fully understood and it could only be explained in terms of ancient-scientific concepts.
An acupuncture point is an area of the skin which has increased electrical conductivity. The stimulation of this point can change the body's function by releasing chemicals from the brain.
Neurophysiology is the study of how the nerves work. Applied Neurophysiology is the clinical application of a scientifically advanced, safe, and painless from of medical therapy using Red Light. An acupuncture point is an area of the skin that has increased electrical conductivity. Stimulation of this area can change the body’s function, by releasing neurochemicals from the brain.
When light travels through air, it may be described as moving in very small waves, which are measured in nanometers(nm). However when light moves through other substances, such as tissue, it must be considered as if energy was contained in little packets or photons.
The energy of light (photons) is transformed into electrical energy by the connective tissue under the skin. This electrical energy is transmitted to the brain by the nerves. Stimulating specific combinations of points on the skin will cause the brain to release particular hormones and other chemicals to relieve pain, increase immune response and promote healing.
The skin being the largest organ of the body, has several main functions, that of protection and sensory. Beneath the skin is a layer of connective tissue, that converts any stimulation such as pressure, temperature, or certain forms of light, into electrical impulses, so that when the skin is stimulated the information is conveyed to the brain electrically by the nerve cells.
McLaren Photonic Therapy utilizes broad band 660nm Red Light to provide the photons required to painlessly and safely stimulate tissue. Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum and ranges between 440 – 700nm. Wavelengths below 400nm (ultraviolet) have high energy and do not penetrate deeply into the tissue but can cause damage, such as melanomas. Above 700nm, in the infrared range, the light is invisible to the human eye, heat is produced, and there is less energy per photon, so longer treatment times are required.
How To Use The Photonic Torch is easy, by simply using the manual, interactive DVD and Charts provided, the user will be able to locate the appropriate acupuncture points. The torch is turned on to illuminate the light, which is then placed on the skin of the dog over the location point for 5 to 10 seconds. As there is no need for needles what little pressure applied to painful locations will please even the sorest of dogs, and as there is no noise associated with the operation of the Photonic Torch, the dogs will be even happier to receive a treatment. The portability of the Photonic Torch adds to the user friendly approach, and the batteries of course make it safe to use in damp environments (unlike electricity) and around inquisitive teeth!
Dogs may exhibit a range of sensations, showing visual reactions, being – drawing in of the flanks, tail movement, dropping the head, yawning and looking sleepy, these reactions are all positive signs that the dog is receiving the treatment. Once the dog has been assessed for a problem and then subsequently treated, the tender points may be rechecked and there should be a noticeable reduction in sensitivity. Any time up to 48 hours post treatment, or even after the second treatment, a marked improvement or complete resolution is commonly noted.
Number Of Treatments Required may vary, but normally it takes only 4 to 6 treatments to address all but the most serious problems. Treatments are usually given every second day, although daily treatments will do no harm, however will not make the dog recover any faster. The exception would be in the case of a fresh injury, as it will assist in addressing the pain.
