Have been having great success with frozen shoulders, all involving subscapularis. Now I can understand why such cases were often difficult to resolve before.
UK September 2004: (D.B.) UK SMART BOWEN® Therapy for People Post Graduate course

“Had a lady with lymphedema, lymph nodes in left arm were removed 6 years ago, arm swelling over the years, oedema also in ankles and legs. She knew that she was my first patient of the lymphatic drainage stimulation treatment. After the 1st treatment she went straight away to the toilet to leave according to her own words “a large amount of smelly, stinky stuff behind”. On the 2nd visit which was one week later the arm size was reduced by one third, she reported that in the first night she visited every two hours to the toilet but slept soundly in between. On the 3rd visit her arm was almost back to normal and her ankles had become visible again. Needless to say that she is thrilled. Two days after the 1st treatment she mixed concrete, and remarked on how great the arm felt. This lady is in her 70’s and just recently lost her husband.

I just wanted to say thanks for the long weekend of teaching. It was quite full on, interesting, full of new information and of course methods, tiring and at the same time pushing the adrenalin. It took me a good few days to get over the tired feeling and a few aches and pains but I was OK by the next weekend. Now it is a whole new ball-game putting all the new moves into action. Hopefully, they will become engraved in my brain shortly. The therapy you did on my right shoulder has made such a difference. I have almost full movement now with no pain and only have to be careful of really twisted moves. In time I am sure that will go too. I had my first game of ten pin bowling in weeks and I had no pain during it. It was so much easier to play without concentrating on my shoulder all the time. Thanks for that.

The introduction to such an innovative new therapy. So simple, interesting and enlightening. Especially found it beneficial learning muscle groups and management of conditions.
South Australia (L.L.) SMART BOWEN® Therapy for Horses.

A good comprehensive course, giving a lot of encouragement. Consistent teaching, fun and high quality information.
New Zealand (M.G.) SMART BOWEN® Therapy for Horses.

I am a Veterinarian in Bunbury W.A. and I am a partner in a small animal/equine practice. My special interest over the last 8 years has been Acupuncture (I am IVAS certified) and Trigger Point therapy. In the last year I have undertaken training in Bowen Therapy (SMART BOWEN®) under Lea Smart and Brian Smart.

I have been really impressed with the results I have achieved, mainly in dogs, cats and horses and consider Bowen Therapy to be the most effective form of physical therapy I have encountered. For small animal lamenesses such as elbow and shoulder, OCD, hip dysplasia, stifle and hock arthritides and back problems. Bowen Therapy is able to release tight muscles and trigger points . Obviously the underlying pathology needs to be addressed, however, in my experience a lot of pain and restriction in movement may be in fact from trigger points in the muscles. By improving muscular function and support, the load on the joints is reduced, and a much better quality of life results. Although I still perform a lot of acupuncture, for me Bowen Therapy has been so successful that it now comprises 80% of my practice. Although I see a lot more dogs than cats, I have had some spectacular results in cats with over grooming problems and other stress related issues such as urine spraying. Quite often in these cases, some of the para-spinal muscles are incredibly tight, and seem to contribute to the anxious mental state of the cats. Improvement is usually immediate and lasting. As taught by SMART BOWEN® Therapy, Bowen Therapy for horses addresses underlying issues such as foot trimming, poor teeth, poor saddle fit, and rider imbalances. These problems are later referred to relevant experts. I have found Bowen Therapy in horses to be wonderful for neck and back problems in particular, where obviously conventional medicine is limited. I frequently use acupuncture or chiropractic in conjunction with Bowen Therapy, but find Bowen Therapy the most useful, single modality.

I had seen Bowen Therapy work so well on horses with pain and muscle issues that I became very interested in learning this amazing therapy. Studying with SMART BOWEN® was a real turning point for me and started me on an amazing journey. The courses were rich and informative and I found the instructors were very patient and encouraging. Last year I bought Buzz (a horse) and he came with his fair share of issues, was underweight and had some training and behavioural problems. However, since owning him and using Bowen Therapy as part of his management he has gained weight and musculature in all the right places. His coat is now shinier, his eyes brighter and his training is progressing beautifully. His body responded exceptionally well to the treatments and he is now a very happy, healthy and athletic horse. BowenTherapy has become a huge and very important part of my life and has allowed me to work with and heal the horses I love so much. With the encouragement and support of their instructors I am now learning SMART BOWEN® for people and plan to expand what I do to helping horses and humans alike.

‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’, my mum always said. Bowen Therapy is just that ‘an ounce of prevention’. Working with pacers in the racing industry is very competitive - not much prize money around. You really have to fight for what is available out there. With good nutrition, a good training regime, then top it off with Bowen Therapy.  Bowen Therapy helps my horses recover after a hard run. Relieves aches and pains by loosening up tight muscles due to hard heavy work, making the horse more supple and able to stride out better. which prevents minor problems from becoming bigger problems. After working with pacers, I found Bowen Therapy helps with all muscular problems, which is very common with pacers and flexibility and length of stride can make the difference between winning and losing. The change in a horse’s demeanour is unbelievable after treatments. I have to say that Bowen Therapy has helped us produce winners!!!

My introduction to Bowen Therapy was particularly noteworthy, especially after witnessing the successful treatments on my horses, after many alternative therapies had failed. After seeing such great treatment results with my horses, I enrolled in the SMARTBOWEN® Horse and Small Animal courses. To gain experience, I used all my horses and the other animals at the family farm, as subjects in my Bowen Therapy case studies. To date, my greatest success has been with my grey mare Ghost. As a result of Bowen Therapy, Ghost has been transformed from an aggressive mare, to an affectionate, well balanced horse, that can be ridden. The progress that I made from the treatment of all of these animals, helped me to quickly qualify as an Equine Bowen Practitioner. I am now able to help other people with their horses and my business clientele is developing nicely. Currently, I am extending my studies to include Bowen Therapy for Humans. To date, I have found the SMARTBOWEN® Courses to be well presented, very motivating and very informative. I certainly believe that these courses are providing me with the skills, knowledge and confidence to practice Bowen Therapy, as a qualified professional.

"In addition to providing me with a detailed understanding of equine physiology and anatomy, the Smart Bowen Horse Course also gave me a wonderful insight into the way that horses interact with people. One of the major benefits of the course is that it incorporates information and techniques from other modalities and the results that can be achieved from the treatments can be spectacular."

I have been training with Smart Bowen Therapy for the last 12 months having just completed the training for both Horse and Small Animals. It has been a life changing experience for me. Lea has opened up a world of natural therapies to me but especially to Bowen. This course has allowed me to make a difference to the animals that I love so much! The course is so informative and fulfilling; I have learnt so many new and amazing ways to think about animals. And most of all it way fun! I had such a wonderful experience with Smart Bowen I fully intend on completing my Human Therapy Training in the coming years as well as expanding my knowledge in other areas of natural medicine. I would highly recommend this course to anyone with a desire to help and learn more about animals. I have found great success with the horses in particular (being my main focus), giving them huge amount of relief and relaxation. Thank You!

I have completed both the Horse and Small Animal Bowen Therapy courses with Smart Bowen. I found the course content very comprehensive, focusing on the Bowen technique and history and also Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics. I have since started my own equine therapy business and have had great results working on many different equine problems. I would definitely recommend this course to maintain your own horses or as a career.

I just had to say thank you once more for not only accepting me into this course, but also for walking me through step by step. This course (especially stage 3) has been the biggest eye opener for me. Not only about the effects of Smart Bowen Therapy but also the surrounding issues such as the effects of saddles, the importance of a correct saddle fit, the impact of barefoot trimming and the restrictions that artificial aids can cause. Also it was really fortunate for me that the course was held at my home, my horses loved the attention!

I just want to thank you for providing the wonderful horse course. It has been an incredible journey for me and has provided me with so much insight. You have a real gift as a teacher and I wish you all the best in your future pursuits. My life has been given a great gift in the form of this work and I plan to embrace it whole heartedly. The results that I am starting to get are so tangible now and it is obvious that there is a higher power at work within the Bowen technique. I am so grateful!
